Around the area

The Correze doesn't have a huge number of major attractions but there are many places of interest just a short drive away.

Limoges - Like most cities the best bit is the old centre. Cathedral, market, old Butchers Street. Botanical garden. Resistance Museum.Worth a days wandering. International airport. Mainline Rail station. Lots of porcelain outlets.

Oradour sur Glane (The Martyr's Village). - An awe inspiring place. In the hope that future generations will realise the futility of war it should be visited by all. Untouched since the massacre during WWII it has an almost eerie silence about it.

The doctor's car Oradour                             Black pudding in the making

Vigeois - Annual fair for apple pressing and making yards and yards of black pudding. You can usually buy beautiful walnuts for Christmas by the bagful.

Pompadour - Nearby town which is famous for the Haras National, I guess the nearest equivalent would be our Jockey Club. Beautiful château but not open for visitors. Nearest you can get is a guided tour of the terraces and stables. The château overlooks the Hippodrome (racecourse). Superb setting and home most weekends in June to September of events. Be it horse racing, eventing, carriage driving, greyhound racing. July 14th sees the annual Donkey Festival followed by a fantastic evening firework display. Open days at the Haras stud with show-jumping, horse parades and much more.

Brive la Gaillarde - The capital of the Correze businesswise. Terminal for Motorail travellers. But the best bit is the shopping, best outside Limoges. Market 3 days a week but Saturday is a great traditional one.

Conceze - Early July there's a Raspberry Festival and they make the biggest tart ever seen. Lots of stalls with local produce and entertainment.

Now that's some Raspberry Tart !!!

Lascaux Caves, Sarlat and Hautefort - are all within about 1 hours drive.

St. Yrieix la Perche - has markets and foires on Fridays and Saturdays and several fantastic outlets selling porcelain.

Rocamadour - The stunning setting of this major tourist attraction is tempting enough to drive the 90 minutes to reach it. But in addition there are the most amazing of sites to visit in the Rocher des Aigles Bird Sanctuary where you can see birds of prey doing a flying display and the Foret des Singes (Monkey Sanctuary) nearby where you walk amongst and feed the lovely animals.

Markets - there are large lively markets nearby: Brive (1 hour away) on Saturdays, Objat (30 mins away) Sundays, Pompadour (15 mins away) Wednesdays.
