Summer events in Ségur

The Tourist Office is inside the Mairie, next to the Auberge Henri IV. The village now has a new website of it's own: The Ségur website

The whole area where the market takes place has been totally made over and we now have a mix of cobbled roadways, gravel areas and some grassed pieces. The area goes by two names: Foirail or Le Champ de Foire. Two new areas for parking have been created - one is a field near the cemetery and the second is on the St Yrieix road. The second one is now being enlarged and the spoil they are removing is being laid in another field opposite the cemetery. So eventually there will be two areas there. After a winter halt to the work a start was to be made once it was drier but the awful spring put paid to that so neither of the planned new car parks are as yet available. It is much hoped that come the spring of 2017 work will re-start and we will have more parking space in 2017. As yet at the beginning of June they remain a weed covered area of earth. I will post here if and when the future of the car parks is clear.

The summer events for 2017 are below. The nearest main tourist office is in St Yrieix.

Festival of music, folk dance and history in l'occitaine

Starts at 15.00 in the Salle Polyvalente

3rd July to 28th August 2017

Farmer's Market.

Every Monday in July and August. Starts at 5pm and goes on until about 11.30pm. Great range of local produce on sale. Including trout from just up the road, barbecued for you or sold fresh. The village run a barbecue, so you can buy your meat at a stall and we'll cook it for you. Stalls selling everything needed for a good night. Live entertainment (most market nights), tables and seating for 5 or 600. The three eating places are all open and ready to serve you. If you feel the need to be slightly pampered, the cafe will give you a table and serve you the trout with chips and salad so you won't have to get too organised. They usually do moules frites on a Monday night as well. A night not to be missed.

It is now no parking on the Foirail at all on a Monday night except for stallholders and volunteer helpers. Even those of us with houses facing onto the Foirail are banned!

There are now 2 additional parking areas or at least we hope there will be for 2017 - weather permitting. One is right opposite the Foirail on the other side of the river, a second is a sizeable field up near the cemetary on the Lubersac road and is also signposted off the Saint Yrieix road.

If you arrive very early you might get to park on the village streets but don't bank on it and if you value your car I'd suggest the car parks.

14th July - Fete National.

Pompadour. In the evening there is a firework display on the terraces of the chateau and viewing from the racecourse. It is spectacular, lasts around 30 to 40 minutes and starts about 10pm ish.
